This talk will look at some basic biology of ants in general and worldwide. It will then focus on the ants of the region in which Paisley sits in Scotland. It will deal with identification of the local ants, and also put them in a nationwide context. It will conclude with a section on the research work of the lecturer Gary Skinner, who worked on the ecological importance of red wood ants.
