Kirsty Menzies is leading this outing to look at the trees in the grounds of the old Spier’s School, Beith.
The school buildings were demolished in 1984 but the grounds, laid out in 1888 by the head gardener of Eglington Castle, still remain. There are around 800 trees and over 50 species in the grounds. We will wander round and examine the buds, twigs, bark, and look for other clues to help us identify them.
We will bring some guides with us but here are some simple ones that you might like to download:

Meet at 10:30am, in the overflow car park at Geilsland Estate, (as shown by the orange P marker on the map). Geilsland Estate lies between Beith town centre and Gateside Village. There is a cafe and toilet facilites within Geilsland Estate. If you enter the Estate from the B777, don’t turn right into the main Geilsland Estate car park, but follow the road straight on until you come to the overflow carpark.
Please ensure that you dress appropriately for the weather. The paths may be muddy.
Get in touch to let us know if you are coming or for further information. Lifts from Paisley are available by arrangement.
