Kirsty Menzies is leading this outing around Jenny’s Well Local Nature Reserve. The nature reserve was created in the 1990s on top of an old landfill site, railway line, allotments and waste ground. It was officially opened in 1996 and offers a riverside location with woodlands, rough grasslands and ponds. After years of neglect, it became an overgrown fly tipping site until Friends of Jenny’s Well formed in 2020 and started looking after it and enhancing it for wildlife.
Meet at 11am, next to the cycle barriers on the path at the end of Jenny’s Well Road (PA2 7BH), at the eastern entrance to the reserve. Grid ref NS 4994 6271 (as shown by the green walker marker on the map). The path is on National Cycle Route 75 and cycle racks are situated a few minutes further up the path. There is on-street parking on Jenny’s Well Road. Please note: If you are using SatNav, follow instructions for Jenny’s Well Nursery, not Jenny’s Well Reserve.
This is an all day walk but feel free to leave at any time, as long as you notify the leader that you are doing so. Bring a packed lunch and dress appropriately for the weather. The walk is mostly on good paths with some gentle inclines.
Get in touch to let us know if you are coming or for further information.
