Dykebar and Hollybush, Paisley

Trees with the surrounding woodland floor a mass of bluebells and greenery.

Saturday 14th June 2025

Kirsty Menzies is leading this walk through the grounds of Dykebar Hospital and on to the old settlement of Hollybush.

Dykebar Psychiatric Hospital was built in 1909 and the grounds laid out with therapeutic woodland walks and working gardens. Hollybush was the nearby farming settlement, set within ancient woodlands. This may be a final chance to experience the different habitats existing on site before building starts on a large new housing development within the hospital grounds.

Meet for 11am, in Dykebar Hospital main car park, on the left, after you enter from Grahamston Road, PA2 7DE. NS 5004 6156.

Mostly rough, but level paths with a few gentle inclines. It can be muddy so walking boots are best. Bring packed lunch and dress for the weather.

This is a Glasgow Natural History Society excursion to which members of Paisley Nats are also welcome.
