Tom Byars is leading this outing to the Ardeer Peninsula. The peninsula measures 3 x 3km square and is a massive site. We will just cover the north and east sections, depending on time. The habitat is varied with wetland fen mixed with thorn scrub. We will be looking specifically for Lesser Whitethroat, along with other warbler species such as Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Sedge Warbler and Grasshopper Warbler, which are breeding here in good numbers.
Bring a pack lunch and refreshments. Waterproof footwear is essential as the area can be muddy, depending on the weather.
Parking at the meeting point is very limited, so car sharing will be essential. Those coming from the wider Paisley area will meet at 10.00am on Seedhill Road, next to the Tannery and East End Park, PA1 1JL. We will meet with Tom at Broom Farm Stevenston, KA20 3DD (Grid ref: NS 28376 42072) at 11am. There are 1-2 additional parking spaces on the grass verge further along Dubbs Road at the next right turn. See the orange markers on the Seedhill Road and Ardeer Googlemaps opposite for details.
Get in touch to let us know if you are coming, if you are coming from other areas and want to car share, or for further information. Emergency contact details will be taken by the leader at the start of the outing.
